Shaniwar wada Pune

Shaniwar wada is a fort which is situated in Maharashtra in the city of Pune. It was built in the year of 1746 when it was ruled by the Peshwa emperors. In the year of 1818 the Peshwa rulers surrendered themselves to the hand of the British. Due to fire, more than half of the fort was ruined but the remaining is being maintained today and acts as a popular center for tourist attraction. The cause of the fire remains unknown till today. There are several buildings in this palace like the Naachacha Diwankhana which means the hall for dancing, Juna Arshad Mahal – the mirror hall and the Thorlya Rayancha Diwankhana which was the reception hall of Baji Rao I.

The building that was made was designed by famous artisians like Devaji, Moraji Patharwat Bhojraja, Shivaram Krishna and Kondaji Sutar. The significant painter Raghao was also included in this list. The seven storied building in the complex of Shaniwar wada is one of the highest storied buildings and it is normally said that although the spire of Sant Dnyaneshwar temple was 17 km away from there, yet it can be viewed from there topmost terrace of this building. There was also a lotus shaped fountain available in the complex.

Shaniwarwada Fort of Pune is also known one of the most haunted historical places of India and contains a nerve chilling story within it’s walls. This is the place where the 13 year-old Peshwa Dynasty heir Narayan was brutally assassinated.
