Coronavirus pandemic has already caused enough panic in the country and now here is another reason to breach in. A tremendous cyclone Amphan is soon to hit several areas of West Bengal, Odisha and Bangladesh in Wednesday noon or evening. This includes North coastal districts of Odisha, West Midnapore, South and North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hoogly and Kolkata district of West Bengal. The cyclone will make landfall close to areas of Sunderbans, Digha and Hatiya. Accompanied by heavy winds and rainfall, Indian Meteorological officials have informed that the wind speed will go as high as 165 kmph while making landfall on Wednesday. Besides, Amphan is to date the fiercest cyclone in Bay of Bengal in the century.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) chief S N Pradhan said that more than 4.5 lakhs of people have been moved to safe grounds from vulnerable sites of Bengal and Odisha. He added that a total of 41 teams of NDRF have been planked in West Bengal and Odisha to handle every emergency situation arising due to Amphan.
While maintaining social distancing norms, authorities have been looking after building new cyclone shelters and providing the villagers with masks and sanitizer.
Every dockyard activity have been paused at Paradip in Odisha and Haldia in West Bengal. A continuous eye has also been put on by the officials to provide relief measures to the affected areas.
