Barog hills travel guide

Situated just 60 km away from Chandigarh and well connected with Rail and Road . It got its name from the Famous Engineer Barog, who designed and developed the Barog Station. It is located on the Kalka-Shimla highway. Barog is situated at height of 6000 feet, which is comfortable for both winter as well as summers. The longest tunnel, which is 1143 meter long, exists between Toy Train route between Kalka and Shimla Highway.

Barog is the only hill station registered in India with camping sites, which allows the tourist to have their tents plunge in their suited direction and chosen position. One is enforced to have pleasure of all the basic amenities at the camping site. Walking towards Choordhar Mountains, leaves you amazing with the fascinate view of the peak. Barog consists of a Spencer restaurant, which is famous for its food that is special notable cutlets.

Over the past few years, Barog has been discovered as an immense place for Holiday Destination. Woods is surrounded with Huge Pine Trees, all around Barog. Snowfall, in winters gives this place a major attraction for Tourist from neighboring states.

Barog Climate: Situated in the slightly cold temperature zone. In winter, the temperature can get quite low when heavy woollens are required. It is pleasantly warm in summer and cottons are recommended.

Barog Tourist attractions
Dagshai : Dagshai developed into a well-established cantonment with a large jail, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1846. Here freedom fighters, mutineers and foreign law-breakers were interned and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment.

Barog Railway Station :One of the most attractive station in the Scottish style on the Kalka-Shimla rail route.

Dolanji Bon Monastery : 5 km from here on Narag-Sarahan road, located a famous Bon monastery known ‘Yungdrung Bon Monastery’ being run by Yungdrung Bon Monastic Centre. This was founded in 1969 by the Abbot Lungtog Tenpai Nyima.

Solan : Located on the National High way-22 Solan derived its name from “Shoolini Devi” a local deity whose temple is situated in Solan Graon which is in existence since ancient time. Solan also remained capital of earstwhile Bhagat State for many years.

A famous ‘Shoolini fair’ is commemorated every year on State level in 2nd week of ‘Asads’ (June) at famous Thoda Ground. The town has various cultural and recreational centres besides temples and churches. There are beautiful Parks such as Children Park, Mohan park and Jawahar Park which have adequate arrangements for comfortable sitting and strolling. A mini zoo in the Park adds to the facination to the environment. Durga Club, Central State Library, Lower and Upper Bazar and Mall road are worth visiting. Ancient Durga Temple, Sanatan Dharm Mandir, Hari and Narsingh Mandir are also quite famous.

Karol Tibba: This place has historic value as pandavas lived here during their agyatvas period 2 hours trek from the resort takes you to this wonderful place and ideal visit for nature lovers.

Jatoli :Jatoli is a small village in Solan District of Himachal Pradesh. It is about 7 km from Solan and is on the Solan-Rajgarh road. Jatoli Shiv Temple is an ancient shrine, situated at Jatoli Village, in Himachal Pradesh. The beautiful temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Jatoli is just 6 km from Solan.

How to get there

By Air: the nearest airports will be those of Chandigarh and Shimla. Both the airports have regular flights to city. Jagson and Deccan Airways cater to Shimla airport, while from Chandigarh; you can avail the services of Simplifly Deccan, and Indian Airlines.

By Rail: Barog has a railway station of its own, which falls on the Kalka-Barog-Shimla narrow gauge.

By Road: Barog is approximately 300 km from Delhi, 60 km from Chandigarh, 54 km from Chail, 21 km from Kasauli, 8 km from Solan and 58 km from Shimla.

Barog Accommodations
Hotels are found on the foothills and are very affordable. The budget rooms do not cost more than Rs 500 and deluxe rooms are available between Rs.500-1000. Most of these hotels are clustered in and around log huts on the foot hills of Barog.

Luxury resorts are nestled on the hills and cost anywhere between Rs.2500 to 5000. These resorts provide all luxurious facilities including steam baths, massages, sporting facilities and 24 hour internet and satellite television facilities along with a room with a scenic view of the snow-capped hills. Given Barog’s climate, air conditioning is not necessary.
