Binsar is a town located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Perched at an elevation of 2,400 mts above sea level, Binsar is situated amidst Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. Binsar is an ideal destination for writers, nature lovers and adventure lovers. The dense Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is the home of 200 bird species, Barking Deer, Himalayan bear, leopard, fox, musk deer, langur, porcupine, flying squirrel, chital, jungle cat etc.

The views of major peaks like Chaukhamba, Panchachuli, Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, and Kedarnath are distinctly visible from here. If you are a die-hard nature lover then prepare yourself to add Binsar in your must see places. It is an ideal place for Bird watching and wildlife photography. An entry ticket of Rs. 40 per person and Rs. 50 for a car has to be paid at the entry point of Binsar. Electricity is limited in Binsar region so as to prevent the natural beauty.

Binsar Weather
Snuggled at an altitude of 2400m above sea level, Binsar is extremely blissful and idyllic retreat for tourist. Once the summer capital of the Chand Rajas, it extends holiday makers one of the most scenic spots in the Kumaon Himalayas. Talking about the climatic conditions, Binsar promises tourists a relaxing and rejuvenating weather all throughout the year. Temperatures in summer rarely rise above 30°C. The minimum recorded temperature during summers is 15°C. While the daytime is characterized as warm and sunny, the early mornings and late evenings are cool and pleasant.

Coming to winters, Binsar experiences a cold and chilly winters, a condition which is distinct in the hill state of Uttarakhand. While mercury rises to a maximum of 24°C during the day, nights are early mornings are especially cold with minimum temperature reaching the 0°C mark. Summer season starts from the mid of March and lasts till June. Thereafter, the region experiences downpour during the next three months, after which the conditions again become favorable. Winters starts from November and continues till February. The best time to visit this beautiful hill city is during the months of April to June and again from October to November.

Places to see in Binsar

Bineshwar Mahadev Temple

Dating back to the 16th century, Bineshwar Mahadev Temple is an important landmark and a must-visit place in Binsar. It was due to this temple that the region was named Binsar. King Kalyan Chand, one of the scions of the Chand Raja dynasty, is believed to have built this temple. The temple enshrines the deity of Lord Shiva. Apart from being a religious place, Bineshwar Mahadev Temple boasts of great architectural excellence. The temple can be an ideal stoppage point on the way to Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary
Nestled amidst the Himalayan range overlooking the Almora valley, Binsar is a beautiful, quiet and wild destination to explore in the Uttarakhand state of India. Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1988, mainly for the conservation and protection of the shrinking broad leaf oak (Quercus) forests of the Central Himalayan region. Binsar Retreat

It is located at Binsar a sanctuary and reserve forest 30 kms uphill from Almora. Binsar Retreat is a Camp Retreat situated at 7500 ft above sea level at the South West Flank of the Sanctuary deep into the Core area. The Binsar Retreat is known for its ecological tourism and stunning Himalayan and forest views, and is situated at a height of 7500 feet 30 kms NE of Almora in Kumaon. The philosophy of the Retreat is to care for and conserve nature and to provide our guests with an experience in the forest which emphasizes on the importance of conserving the delicate balance between man and nature. People from the urban environment have forgotten how to relate to our natural habitat, to respect and nurture it. Khali Estate

Set amidst the Binsar Sanctuary is the Khali Estate – a 26 acre of serene and beautiful land. The estate was once the home of Sir Henry Ramsay, the commissioner of Kumaon from 1856 to 1884. Khali Estate is an epitome of natural beauty and soothing silence. The charming view of the Himalayan range is beautifully coupled with the cooing of the birds. Apart from just resting in the estate, one can also indulge in long treks down to the little villages or up to the Binsar top.

Pariyadeva Pashan
Historically, Binsar has been a great archeological site, thanks to the relics which date back to the Megalithic Age. Pariyadeva Pashan is one such relic, having long stone with cup-marks at the place. Situated on the Almora-Binsar road near Dinapani, it is a must see for tourists. So, if you were of the opinion that Binsar is nothing more other than mountain range and varied flora and fauna, this would surely come as a surprise.

Binsar Accommodation
There are limited number of hotels in Binsar so do make prior bookings before visiting. Budget hotels line the lower part of the Binsar hills and are quite comfortable with a good view of the surrounding nature. These hotels are available for less than Rs.300 per night. Deluxe hotels are also available in the heart of the town. Tourists prefer these hotels as they are affordable and offer good service. Sometimes the place gets too cold for comfort and a nice warm fire might be required, which is readily provided by most hotels here. Air conditioning is not necessary here.

Luxury hotels here are mostly resorts with breath taking view of the surrounding landscape. Some of the resorts have well maintained gardens with rare alpine flowers and ferns. The view from the rooms in these resorts give you total worth for your money. The hospitality service in these resorts is not bad either. These hotels provide a doctor on the house in addition to good wireless internet and communication facilities

How to reach Binsar

By Air : Pantnagar Airport, located at a distance of 127kms, is the nearest aerodrome that connects Binsar to the other parts of the country. A domestic airport, it is positioned in the in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Jagson Airlines is the only airline that plies to and from the airport, connecting the state of Uttarakhand to the capital, New Delhi. After de-boarding from the air carrier, tourists can either go for roadways or railways.

By Rail : The nearest railway station to Binsar is located at Kathgodam. Located at a distance of about 121 km from Binsar, Kathgodam railway station is well-connected to the important cities of New Delhi, Kolkata, Dehradun, Jammu and Kanpur. There are several trains that ply on this route, connecting this beautiful hill region to the plains of country.

By Road : Binsar is located at a distance of 380 km from Delhi. It takes nearly 10 hours from Delhi to reach Binsar, via NH24 to Rampur, NH87 to Kathgodam, then the state highway 37 via Bhowali, Khairna, Almora, Kaparkhan and Ayarpani to Binsar.
