Cherrapunji Sightseeing – Cherrapunji tourism

Cherrapunji or Cherrapunjee is located at a distance of 56 kms from Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya and is considered to be the rain capital of the world. It is now known as Sohra situated at a height of 4, 823 ft. It is the headquarters of Khasi and Jaintia province, and is also known for the roaring sounds of the waterfalls that captivates tourists from different corners of the world. Apart from waterfalls, there are valleys and deep gorges, located at few distance from Cherrapunji. Its the world’s wettest regions and best place for rain lovers.

Some of the most interesting places of Cherrapunji tourism:

Nohsngithiang Falls:

These falls basically lie on the way to a visit to cherruapunji. These falls are very attractive and amazing and offer some of most spectacular views to the tourists. The wonderful fall of water amidst the rocks is one of the most popular reasons for the people to visit here.

The Limestone Caves:

The limestone caves that are found in Cherrapunji are considered to be the most popular in the world here. They offer wonderful experiences to the tourists with spectacular views, and also contribute to the popularity of Cherrapunji.

Laitkynsew:

Heading to the village of Laitkynsew in Cherrapunji can offer one of the most interesting destinations for the tourists to trek and make a wonderful experience in adventure. It takes an hour to drive from Shillong to reach this place. There is a steep hike down the valley, and this offers a wonderful opportunity for bioengineering. There is plenty of living bridges located here that are made out of tree roots.

Thangkharang Park:
This is a very beautiful park that is situated at a distance of about 12 km from Cherrapunji and it generally houses a sanctuary for many different species of birds. At the same time, it also offer spectacular views of the plains of Bangladesh.

Other popular places are Eco park, Mawsmai Caves, Kper Syiem Sohra, Sa-I-Mika Park, Ramakrishna Mission, Khasi monoliths, British Cemetery, David Scott memorial and Dainthlen falls.
