An Overview of Rajasthani Culture

Rajasthan is also called as the land of Maharajas, and one of the most loved tourist destinations in the world. The place is brimmed with palaces, festivals and colors. The most popular dance that can trance people is the Ghoomar Dance from Jodhpur and Kalbeliya dance of Jaislamer. The folk music is a crucial part of Rajasthani culture. Kathputali, Chang, parth dance resemble the Rajasthani culture to the fullest. Shopping in Rajasthan

If you are a shopaholic this place is a paradise for you.  You will be smitten by the colorful market of the pink city, Jaipur. Every nook and corner of the city is adorned with artifacts, handicrafts and jewelry.  As this city is famous for its handicrafts, you can check them out at Nehru Bazar, Jaipur. Apart from that, there are other bazaars like Nai Sarak, Sojati Gate market, Bada Bazar that reflects art and tradition of this desert region.

Festivals and events

The culture of Rajasthan is mainly driven by fairs and festivals. Every festival religious or regional all are celebrated with goodwill and as a gala event. Kite festival, Desert festival, Puskar mela and all other festivals are celebrated with pomp and show. Since Rajasthan has a special bond with camels the state hosts several festivals to commemorate them.

Traditional costumes in bright colors, intricate designs, mirror works, heavy silver jewelry is the most important element of the Rajasthani wardrobe. The people here love to dress in colorful ways. Men here used to wear colorful turbans called PUGRI or SAFA. Women prefer colorful GAGHRAS and blouses called CHOLIS.

The cuisine of Jaipur, Rajasthan

Rajasthan is a place that offers gastronomical delight. The food here is influenced by the war-like lifestyles, thanks to its deep history. The food prepared here can last for a long time and can be eaten without heating. The famous cuisine of Jaipur is  Mangodi, Papad, Khichdi, Buttermilk and Sohan halwa, etc. The daal bati churma is a famous mouth-watering cuisine that is popular across Rajasthan. Another traditional delicacy is Gatte Ki Sabzi, the sabzi is cooked in curd gravy and a lot of spices are added to make it taste yummy. Kachhori is another dish that will make you feel coming back to this place.

Cuisine of Udaipur

Udaipur cuisine mainly includes vegetarian dishes. Lal Maas is one of the most touted non-vegetarian dishes. It is prepared from the yogurt and an array of spices is added to give it a fiery taste and aroma. If you have a sweet tooth, you can indulge in Ghevar, a dessert made from flour, milk and ghee and doused in sugar syrup accompanied by pistachio, almonds and saffron. No festival or celebration is complete without this signature dish.
