Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat is one of the well planned cities of India located on the banks of Sabarmati River. H. K. Mewada and Prakash M. Apte were the people behind this indigenously designed city. The city has been named after Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Indian nation. Gandhinagar is a well planned and highly structured city with wisely laid roads. The temperature of the city ranges from 19 °C during the winters to 42 °C in summers. Akshardham
Akshardham is a famous temple of Swaminarayan. This wonder building also called as world wonder by the people of Gujarat is built with pink stones and has beautiful carvings on it. The lush green gardens and the fountains in the temple premises add beauty to the temple. Thousands of people come here daily to enjoy the beautiful designs, elegance, silence, and spirituality. This temple is a holding of the Swaminarayan Sect, one of the richest sects in the world.Capital Complex
The sector 10 of Gandhinagar has the capital complex that comprises the legislature and other important government offices. Vithalbhai Patel Bhavan is a magnificent domed building that stands on a high platform in the centre of a circular lake, and it houses the Vidhan Sabha and the legislature offices. Other renowned structures of the complex are the Sardar Bhavan and the Narmada Bhavan.Children’s Park
The children’s park of Gandhinagar is one of the major tourist attractions of the city. It is located in the sector 28 of the city. The park owns a mini train that entices both the children and adults alike. It also has a lake and provides boating facilities to tourists making their trip to Gandhinagar a memorable one.Sarita Udyan
Sarita Udyan is the most favorite picnic spot of Gandhinagar. It is located in sector 9 on the banks of River Sabarmati. The entire area has been developed into a full fledged recreational zone. The deer park adjacent to it adds value to this lovely picnic spot.Craftsmen’s Village
The Pethapur village also known as craftsmen’s village is about 7 km away from the city center. It is famous for its colorful ‘Bandhani saris’ it also has the fame of exporting wooden printing blocks abroad. The Pethapur craftsmen are mainly Gujjar Suthars.
Transport and Stay
Nearest Airport is in Ahamedabad, which is about 31 km away from the city of Gandhinagar. The city is well connected with all major Indian cities and also has a few direct flights to some of the gulf countries. Both Gandhinagar and Ahamedabad railway stations are accessible from the city and they connect all major cities of western India. The bus transportation is taken care of both by government and private concerns.
