Gorumara National Park is located in the northern part of west Bengal in India. It is a national park that is situated in the foothills of the Himalayas. Basically it is in the terai region. Gorumara National Park is a small park or an average sized park with lots of forests and grassland areas.
It is known for its reserves of Indian rhinoceros, other major fauna of the park includes Indian Elephant, leopard, Indian Bison, and different species of deer, turtles, pythons, monkeys along with more than two hundred species of birds. This is the best protected area in India and it is administered by the Ministry of Environment and Forests.The park has no traces of human habitation and it has huge bungles that were made during the British reign. The park has its own log book which is maintained properly and it is quite interesting. There are many ethnic villages surrounded by the park.
Almost half of the villagers earn money from the forest by getting employed in some way or other. They engaged themselves in tourism, forest department activities etc. Budhuram, Chatua, Murti, Saraswati and Kailipur are the names of some of these villages.
