Hill Stations in Kerala

Western Ghats which undertakes most of the hill stations of Kerala. Kerala is a land with much exotic appeal, positioned neatly in the core of the nature with an abundance of lenient natural beauty. The exotic sea-shores and the lush green hill stations serve the perfect green- carpet to the lofty.

Idukki, meaning narrow gorge is one of the most nature rich areas in Kerala. Periyar, Thalayar and Thodupuzhayar are the three main rivers here meandering their way through the richness of the green. It is a major tourist destination with wildlife sanctuaries, hill stations, spice plantation tours, mountain treks, elephant rides and so on. A tribal settlement is found in this area, with a distinct cultural ethos and a diverse uniqueness.

Munnar, is one of the most popular tourist destinations redefines serenity and tranquility. It has an altitude of 1600 meters above the sea level, thus a cool climate prevails here, ideal for tea plantation. ‘Neelakurniji’ , an exotic blue flower blossoming once in every twelve years is a distinct feature of this place. Anamundi, the highest peak in South India, towering over 2695 meters is situated in Munnar.

Devikulam (the lake of goddess),

is situated 7 kms away from Munnar, which is an perfect abode for exotic flora and fauna, making it an exceptional experience. The expanded greenery with cliffs of mountains soaring as high as 1000 meters, Devikulam as it name suggests has a beautiful little lake amidst the vastness of great mountain peaks.

Chembra Peak, is the highest peak in Wayanad and also an ideal place for trekking. This is situated 2100 meters above the sea level is a paradise for adventure seekers but that also involves much risk. However, the peak serves us with some magnificent scenic beauty of the Wayland district and a lake situated atop, which never dries up. There is a spring that makes all the way all up to there, and sprinkles its water from the ascending land.

Ponmudi,is a hill resort with narrow crooked pathways all the way up to a height of915 meters. The paths are surrounded by rich greenery, and dense intriguing wooded forests, adorned with beautiful wild mountain flowers and creepers. A multi hued place, with multitude of butterflies and springs, Ponmudi is famous for its deer park and admirable trekking tracks.

Mattupetty,

is a hill station specialized in dairy farming and Indo-Swiss live stock product. This is located at a height of 1700 meters, where over one hundred varieties of cattle are reared. Tourists though, are more attracted towards the Mattupetti River, along with a Dam which provides boating facilities and is the idyllic picnic spot. The Kundala tea plantation and the Kundala Lake enhance the beauty of the place.

Vythiri,is another place located in the Wayanad district with exceptionally striking scenic beauty with refreshing, comfortable and unpolluted vast stretches of lush green land with perennial streams dissecting them. It is situated above 2600 ft and has historical and legendary importance.
