India Locks Down For 21 Days; Please Have Patience & Don’t Panic

And finally, India locks down for 3 weeks.

With over 428,220 infected and a death toll of 19,101, the entire world is on its way to succumb to the current pandemic. For a country like India with people swarming at every point and having very little sense of hygiene, the Coronavirus is even more deadly.

The situation in India is currently not as bad as in some other parts of the world, but there are 519 people infected by the virus, with a death toll of 11 (as of March 25, 2019). Already, with visas on suspension and cancellation of flights and rail journeys, international borders are under strict vigilance.

To prevent the virus from spreading to advanced stages, earlier, a lockdown spanning over major cities and UTs of India had been announced, effective till the 31st of March.

But in a more recent address, on the 24th of March, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has ordered a complete lockdown of the country for the next 21 days, till the 14th of April. Here are a few moments of his address:

  • All citizens are requested to be disciplined and patient during the lockdown and remain indoors with resolve.
  • Commoners are appealed to obtain information only from verified sources (not pay heed to rumors or superstitions) and strictly live by what the government has suggested.
  • There will be no shortage of essential commodities, like medicines, cereals, vegetables or fruits, to prevent panic-hoarding of goods. So, people should not panic under any circumstances.
  • The central Government has sanctioned an amount of 15000 Crore rupees towards combating the current situation. He has assured that the medical facilities are being improved so that the hospitals can tackle the virus effectively, and more paramedics are being trained to strengthen the manpower in these dire times.

The time is especially hard for the homeless and poor, and the Prime Minister has much-admired the contribution of the private organizations along with the State Governments, help out those in need. Prime Minister also requested all the citizens to pray for those who are battling COVID-19 in the frontlines, like doctors, nurses, paramedics, and sanitization staff.
