Indore is one of the largest Indian cities in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The name Indore is said to have originated from the Indreshwar temple present in the city.  It is located in the western part of Madhya Pradesh. There is a confluence of the two Rivers Saraswathi and Kahn at the center of Indore, which makes the city more attractive. The city has a climate that consists of hot summers and cold winters. Temperatures vary from 10 °C in winter to 40 °C during the summer seasons. The best part of the year to visit Indore is from September to March.

Lal Baag Palace

The 18th century Lal Baag Palace is one of the greatest monuments of the Holkar dynasty in Indore. At present descendents of the Holkars reside in this palace. Some of the valuables of this palace include the Georgian style furniture, Italian chandeliers, Persian carpets, Belgium glass windows, stuffed wild animals, and many more. The palace is surrounded by lush green gardens and spreads over an area of 28 acres. Visitors can enjoy the grandeur of this palace only on Mondays.

Chhatri Bagh

Chhatri Bagh is one of the most visited places of Indore by the tourists. One can find the grand tombs of the Holkar rulers erected in the banks of the River Khan. The grandest and the most impressive of all the tombs is that of Malhar Rao Holkar I.

Rajwada

Rajwada is the palace with a seven storeyed gateway that faces the main square. One can find a mix of the French, Mughal, and the Maratha styles in the palace. This palace has survived three major fire accidents in its 200-year history. It has been renovated and now only serves as an object of past glory entertaining visitors. Any visitor must visit the place to complete their tour to Indore.

Nehru Park

This Park was built by the then British government especially for the English. Originally named as Bisco Park, it was renamed as Nehru Park after the Indian independence. The highlights of this park include numerous species of roses, a library, a swimming pool, and kids play center. The major attractions for children are the mini cars and miniature train that come around the park.

Mahatma Gandhi Hall

King Edward Hall that was renamed as the Mahatma Gandhi Hall after the independence is one the most gorgeous buildings of Indore. It is built in the Indo-gothic style with a capacity to accommodate 2,000 people at a time. It is one of the greatest landmarks of the city and is also frequently a venue for exhibitions and fairs throughout the year.

Other places of interest that cast a spell on the visitors include Shree Sansthan Bada Rawala, Kaanch Mandir, Devlalikar Kala Vithika, Indore Museum, Indore Zoo, Gommatgiri, Hrimkargiri, Bijasan Hill, Ralamandal, Patal Pani, Sitlamata Falls, Kajligarh and many more.

Transport and Stay

Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport is the airport of Indore. It has direct flights to major Indian cities like Bombay, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Calcutta, Jabalpur, Raipur, Jaipur, Nagpur, Pune, Bangalore, and Bhopal.  Indore is well connected all the major cities of India through railways as well. It has regular trains to Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Trivandrum, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Poona, Jammu, Jaipur, Lucknow, Bhopal, Nagpur, Patna, and various other destinations. The city is also well connected to other parts of the country through national and state highways. The Indore city buses, mini buses, tempos, auto-rickshaws and taxies offer a convenient local transport.

Indore offers a wide range of accommodation for all sorts of visitors. Fortune Landmark, Hotel Crown Palace, Hotel President, Hotel President Planet, Hotel Princes Palace, and Sayaji Hotel are some of the hotels that offer a first class accommodation. Hotel Kalinga, Hotel Kanchan, Hotel Kanchan Tilak, Hotel Shreemaya, Hotel Shreemaya Residency, Hotel Sunder, Hotel Surya, and Hotel Tulsi are some of the economy class hotels.
