The Jehangir art gallery is located in the city of Mumbai. It is one of the famous tourist spots in Mumbai and is also famous for the various kinds of painting. It was discovered by Sir Cowasji Jehangir with the support of Homi Bhabha and K.K.Hebbar. It was founded in the year of 1952 and was managed by the Bombay Art Society. The donation amount for the construction of this place was made solely by Cowasji Jehangir.
The original locality of the gallery is Kala Ghoda which is behind the Prince of Wales Museum that is in the south of Mumbai. The gallery consists of four exhibition halls and was designed by sir G.M. bhuta of G.M. bhuta and Associates. The history of this gallery is connected with the renaissance of Indian art. There is also a cafe known as the Samovar cafe and it houses the natesans who are the oldest antique dealers of the country. The entry to this gallery is free. The structure is one of the oldest concrete structures of the Mumbai city and the gallery has a combined function of auditorium and art gallery. This is the concept of modernist notion and this introvert art gallery can be questioned today but this is an example of the early inward looking art galleries of the Bombay city.Location and Timing:
