Kanyakumari boast many interesting tourist places, Kanyakumari is a town which is located in Tamil Nadu state, the name of this town has been taken from the Kumari Amman or Kanyakumari temple. It is also called the foot of India because the three seas are met here, the name of these seas is the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. It has cool climate which discriminates it from the rest of Tamil Nadu. Everyone will be very pleased to visit this beautiful town. It is also famous for its hills, virgin beaches, meandering rivulets and pristine rivers. The Kumari Amman temple is situated on the shore and the nose ring of the Goddess is very famous for its sparkling splendor, this whole scene is visible from the sea.

On this island we can see the Shri Pada Parai, it means the footprints of the virgin Goddess. It is also famous because Gandhi Memorial is situated where Gandhi’s ashes were kept before immersion and the rays of the sun directly fall on the spot. Kanyakumari Temple

This is world famous temple also known as Kumari Amman Temple and it is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and Durga. According to mythology, God Shiva did not turn up on the wedding day because of some unusual reasons, so the feast remained incomplete with grains. One more thing is interesting about this temple, this temple has a black stone image of the virgin Goddess and She is wearing a diamond rose ring.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial

This is the place where Swami Vivekananda sat on a long meditation; this place can be shown from the shore of the sea. It was built in 1970 on the rock. It has a meditation hall where people come and meditate. This process of meditation gives them the real peace of mind and the happiness. Here you will find a museum and a study hall where you can study various religious books.

Our Lady of Ransom Church
This is the church which is very rare to be found in another place, this is the best attractive part of Kanyakumari. It is famous because of its architecture. Earlier it had thatched roof but now it reflects the Gothic style of architecture. You will find the gold cross on the central tower of this church.

Government Museum of Kanyakumari
This museum was built in 1991 and it is situated on the Gandhi Memorial Road. This museum has various paintings, portals and sculptures. These sculptures are based on Lord Vishnu and God Nataraja. Here is a gallery in which you will find an enormous collection of silver and gold coins and documents related to the Travancore government.

Mahatma Gandhi Memorial

This memorial is based on the memory of Mahatma Gandhi who visited this place in 1925 and this memorial was constructed in 1952 on October 2, which is the date of Gandhiji’s birthday. It is also known as Gandhi Mandapam. Here you will find a library with a collection of philosophical texts and history.

Vattakottai Fort
It is a very famous monument which is the example of exemplary art. It was built by Captain Lannoy and it was constructed on the seaboard. It has 6 acre area, this fort helped as a shelter against the Dutch. This fort has very high walls and these walls are made of stone. It is used as a picnic place because we can see the panoramic views from here.

Padmanabhapuram Palace

It is very close to Thuckalay, a town in Kanyakumari. The palace was built of granite, and spread across 4 km at the foothills of the Veli Hills.

Kamaraj memorial
Kamaraj memorial is a tribute to the freedom fighter and great leader Kamaraj. Kamaraj has been an influential leader and active part of the various political events. The memorial has been constructed at the place where Kamaraj’s ashes were kept for public to pay homage before immersion into the sea.

Thiruvalluvar Statue

The Thiruvalluvar Statue is a 133 feet high statue situated on a small island near the town of Kanyakumari. The statue is of Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar, the author of Thirukkural. Thirukkural is considered as a remarkable work, eulogized as a directory of the code of conduct and ethics for humanity.

Sunrise and Sunset, Kanyakumari
Sunrise can be seen in Kanyakumari through out the year at Bay of Bengal. Sunset can be seen from View Tower through out the year except the months of June, July and August. On balmy, full-moon evenings, (locally called Chitra Pournami) one can also see the moon-rise and sunset at the same time – on both sides of the horizon.

In addition to this, the sea beach and a number of other market places are also the centre of attraction in Kanyakumari. Today, the city is fast emerging as a well developed tourist place.
