Lonavala Hill Station – Lonavala Tourist Places
Lonavala Hill Stattion which has been aptly dubbed the Jewel of Sahyadri Mountains features various health resorts and is only 5 kilometers away from the Khandala Hill Station. At an altitude of just about 625 meters above sea level and only 100 kilometers away from Mumbai, Lonovala is an excellent choice for a weekend get away from the hustle and bustle of the urban Mumbai City scene. There is also a series of caves that one should check out near Lonovala which were hand cut by Buddhist monks.
During the months between June and Semptember, the monsoons that hit the region are usually fairly strong and even build up to the point that a 100 foot waterfall is created nearby. The winter months which fall between November and February while cold are still bearable and there is always something that you can find to do. The best time though is during the summer months that fall between April and June when the weather is just amazingly perfect.
Offering an awe inspiring view of the lush and green panorama of the surrounding Sahyadri mountain range, there are a number of great vantage points for which to choose from or you can just opt to see them all. The area around Lonovala is filled with a wide variety of plant and animal life as well as a number of mountain lakes to picnic around. Also while you are checking out the lakes, you might as well stop by the Walvan Dam.
There is also a famous resort and spa nearby called the Kaivalyadhama Yoga Hospital and in conjunction with the ancient Bhaja Caves which were hand cut by Buddhist monks into the rock faces, one can seek enlightenment on this hill station. Furthermore, there are quite a few yoga training centers throughout Lonovala.
If you are not into yoga and prefer a more adrenalin packed experience, you can make your way over to Duke’s Nose where you will be able to try some rock climbing. There is also several other locations around Lonovala like the Karla Hills where you can also get some rock climbing practice in.
When it comes to visiting Lonovala, getting there is not the issue; it is having to go when your time is up. With so many things to see and do around this hill station, it is always worth a return trip to make sure that you can see everything there is to see.
