Maharashtra has bundle of monsoon destinations.  Here we have presented five of the most favoured destinations:

Lonavala

It is one of the most suitable monsoon destinations located in Maharashtra. This place lies somewhat between the biggest cities in Maharashtra i.e. Pune and Mumbai. When monsoon comes in force, Lonavala changes completely. The barren hills around get a green carpet like cover and waterfalls spruce up spontaneously. This place is ideal for trekking enthusiasts. Here they can visit variety of places like Duke’s Nose, Rajmachi trek and areas beyond Tungarli proffers great lakeside view for guests to stroll.

Malshej Ghat

This Ghat is of special reverence for hikers, trekker and adventure enthusiast. This Ghat is around 160 km on the Mumbai-Bhimashankar route via Murbad. The area is known for Flamingo arrivals. This place offers beautiful nature views. No wonder, most exotic migratory flamingos choose this place as their abode. The closest place is Shivneri fort, birthplace of legendary Shivaji Maharaj. Other place to visit is the Buddhist caves that date back to the third century, which is surmounted by a historic fort.

Bhimashankar

This place is located 65 kms from Bhimashankar, a hill top widely known for Shiva temple. This hill top remains surrounded by a reserve forest called as Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary and it becomes lively during the monsoon season. Some of the routes here are favourite among trekkers.

Bhandardara

This place is 80 kms from Nasik and it is about 160 km from Mumbai region and 200 km from Pune.  It is known for cascading waterfalls and there is completely uninhabited area around it. While approaching this place one need to pass through vineyards, windmills and lakes. Therefore it makes a pleasing destination for the visitors, especially during monsoon.

Saputara

This picturesque hill station is located 1000 m above the sea level and the climate here is pleasant. This place is known as Adobe of Serpents, located in the forest region of Dangs of Sahyadari Ranges. It is the only hill station located in Gujarat and Maharashtra border. The temperature hover atound 28 degrees during the summer months. It is 85 kms beyond the Nashik and is about 255 kms from Mumbai- Gujarat border.

Jawhar

It is a hill station situated at an altitude of 518 m. This place is situated on the Manor Nashik route. It is about 160 kms from Mumbai and popular monsoon destination. Monsoon add vivacity and the barren mountains get revived.

Koyna

It is an area that connects national highway 04 with national highway 17. This place is set around a dam and it is surrounded by the reserve forest. It is an excellent getaway during monsoon.

Panhala

It is located 25 kms from Kolhapur district. It is an idyllic tourist spot set around the fort on the Kolhapur- Ratnagiri route. During the monsoon the area transform itself and thus it is an excellent monsoon destination.
