Chennai formerly known as Madras is the capital of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu is located on the Coromandel Coast. Tamil Nadu is the gateway of South India. Chennai has a traditional civilization. Chennai people are deeply connected to their traditional culture. People of Chennai speak Telugu, Tamil, Urdu, English, Hindi and Malayalam languages. Temperature of Chennai in summer is – maximum 37ºC and minimum 21ºC and in winter season maximum temperature is the 32ºC and minimum temperature is around 19ºC. In Chennai so many tourist spots are there like as – temples, forts, beautiful beaches, caves, museum, gardens, etc.

Major Tourist places in Chennai:

Marina Beach : –

Marina beach is the 2nd longest beach in the world. Former chief ministers MGR and Anna’s samadhis are situated on the beach and attract a large crowd everyday. An aquarium is also situated on marina beach. Many beautiful buildings like as Presidency college, Ice House, University of Chennai are situated on marina beach drive.

Government Museum : – Children’s museum, National art gallery and contemporary arts presented in museum campus. Do not miss the Government Museum Chennai due to its unique collection of artifacts and relics devoted to many different areas of interest like zoology, anthropology, numismatics that comprise some of the most valued objects of cultural heritage in India.

SanThome Cathedral Basilica : –

It was the cathedral church earlier built in 52 AD by San Thome and rebuilt in 1606. In 1896 made as basilica. So now its name is the San Thome Cathedral Basilica.

Fort St. George : – This was built by the British East India Company in 1640 AD. Fort museum and St. Mary Church is in the St. George Fort for visit and brush up your knowledge about history.

Sri Parthasarathy Temple : –

This temple was built by the Pallavas in eighth AD. Sri Prathasarathy Temple is devoted to Lord Shri Krishna.

Chennai High Court : – The area of high court is most active and crowded area of Chennai. The Chennai high court was built in 1892. Its decorated corridors and domes are so much attractive. Chennai high is known as the 2nd biggest judicial campus in the world.

MGR Film City : – Film city was established by Tamil Nadu Government in tharamani zone. The MGR film city has different settings and locations for theatre recording and film shooting.

Kapaleeshwar Temple : –

This temple was founded by Pallavs in 8th century. This temple was built on the Dravidian pattern of architecture. Kapaleeshwar temple is devoted to Lord Shiva.

Kalakshetra : – This is the temple of art. Kalakshetra was founded by Rukmini Devi in 1936 to encourage and promote the Bharatanatyam. Bharatanatayam is the classical dance of the state.

Birla Planetarium : – Birla planetarium is the most beautiful planetarium in India and lies between Guindy and Adyar at Kotturpuram. The planetarium is a complex of science and technology and is beneficial for science scholars and students.

Guindy National Park : –

Guindy national park is located nearby Raj Bhavan. This is a Deer Park and extended in 595 acres. In India Guindy national park is the only wildlife sanctuary with in city limits. One end of the park is occupied by the Raj Bhavan for Governor’s mansion. In other side there is the beautiful campus of famous IIT (Indian Institute of Technology). There is a cancer institute in between on the road edge. Children park is also there with mini-railway, mini zoo, reptiles, snake park, Memorials of Gandhiji and Rajaji etc. In the opposite side of the park there is Anna University Of Technology. In the east side of the park there is the Central Institute Of Technology.

Valluvar Kottam : – Life size statue of a Saint has been installed in a temple chariot. Valluvar Kottam’s auditorium is the largest in Asia and capable to accommodate over 4000 people.

St Mary’s Church Chennai is among interesting places to visit in Chennai because it was the first English church to be built in this area at the end of the 17th century.

Amir Mahal :This palace called ” Amir Mahal” belongs to the Royal family of Arcot. Situated on an area of approx. 14 acres, Amir Mahal was built in 1789 and came into possession of the Arcot Royal Family in 1870. Located in Triplicane entry is allowed with permission only. Timings: 10:00 – 18:00

Covelong beach is a desirable retreat for many locals and tourists from busy Chennai. The beach is safe for swimming and fishing.

Snake Park :It is at Sardar Vallabbai Patel Road. There are more than 40 species of common snakes of India here. The crocodiles, chameleons, monitor lizards and tortoises can also be seen in their natural setting. Visit : Wednesday to Monday from 0830 to 1730. Tuesday holiday.

Vivekanadar Illam:

This is the place where Swami Vivekananda, one of the key figures in the introduction of Vedanta and Yoga in America and Europe stayed in Chennai when he visited in 1897. It is now an exhibition on Swami Vivekananda, run by Ramakrishna Math which was founded by him.

Water Sports Chennai : being in the vicinity of the sea, is a paradise for water sport lovers in India. It offers a wide variety in terms of adventure activities, right from parasailing to scuba diving and from fishing to boating.
