Places to visit in Mahabaleshwar

Mahabaleshwar is situated in Satara district at an elevation of 1372m above sea level. Mahabaleshwar considered as the largest hill station in the Sahayadri range of Maharashtra state and it is about 115km southwest from Pune city. Because of high altitude there is a cool climate condition and the weather is usually pleasant. Due to this climate condition and reason of being hill station Mahabaleshwar is the superb pleasant site to visit, to feel peace and to make healthy holidays. March-May is the peak season for tourists. Reason being most hill station there is all sorts of facilities available for tourist and others such as Budget Hotel, Motel, Bus and other vehicles in nearby areas.

How to reach Mahabaleshwar

Mahabaleshwar is 47km from district Satara. So, takes about one hour from there to reach Mahabaleshwar . If you want to travel by train than from Mumbai or from another major city come to Satara. If you want to travel by bus then can come in Volvo and any AC Bus from Mumbai. Mahabaleshwar is 247km (about) from Mumbai. So, you can come by car also from Mumbai. Normally, in 4-6 hrs can reach here. Mahabaleshwar is a real place to visit to see a panoramic deep view of nature closely and also good for trekking, rock climbing, boating and to know about nature, to improve health. Finally, come here and make yourself happy with nature.

Visiting sites for a panoramic view of hills:

Bombay point: It is a sunset point. The marvelous view of sunset with various hill and cool weather, that is kind of allocation present here.

Arthur’s seat:

This point is named after Arthur mallet; he came here and built a house. This point is about 1470m high. From here you can see the geographical differentiation of Kankan and Deccan, easily.

Wilson point (sunrise point): this point is vast plateau and this platform is located at 4735 feet above sea level. So, from this beautiful location you can enjoy the panoramic view of the nature of an inning of a new day.

Lodwick point: it is located at the height of 1239m and also known as Elephant’s head point. Lodwick was first European to visit Mahabaleshwar. From this point, you can see a charming view of some waterfalls and valleys in Mahabaleshwar.

Helen’s point: it is known as blue valley and you can see a waterfall which is followed by Salshi River.

Kate’s point: its 6km far from Venna lake. (Founder of Mahabaleshwar) Sir John Malcom’s daughter named Kate and the name of this point is based on her name. It is a fabulous echo point.

Venna Lake:

everyone can enjoy boating in this lake with panoramic view of waterfalls and hills. It covers an area of about 30 acres.

Panchgani: This place is 20 km from Mahabaleshwar. Private and govt. Buses and taxies are available from here. It is a well known picnic and honeymoon site because of suitable hilly cool climate. Panchgani is named due to the presence of five hills in this area. Trekking, climbing and other adventure activities can enjoy on this hilly site.

Pratapgarh fort: it is 23 km from Mahabaleshwar. It was built under the command of Shiva ji.

Morarji castle: it is an old place. In 1945, Mahatma Gandhi once lived here.

Tapola: it is about 50 km from Mahabaleshwar and can enjoy boating here. You also can see strawberry farms on the way of Mahabaleshwar to Tapola.

Besides these points and specific sites there are some waterfalls such as Venna fall, Chinaman’s fall and Dhobi’s falls. During rainy season, you can see the real beauty of nature here. Best time to visit mahabaleshwar hill station is from October to June, before the rain session start.
