Saputara, meaning “Abode of Serpents”, The city of Saputara is in the Indian state of Gujarat and is also known as one of the hill stations in the region. It is located in the Dang district of the state. Located at an altitude of 1000 meters this is a picturesque destination. Over the years with increasing interest and popularity of the place among tourists there has developed a planned city. This has all the facilities and amenities required for a perfect vacation destination. The town is surrounded by densely wooded hills and situated in the forested Dang plateau of the Sahyadri mountain range of the Western Ghats.
The defining monument in Saputara is a statue of a large snake on banks of the Sarpaganaga River which flows through the region. The snake is worshipped by the Dang tribals / adivasis who constitute 90% of the population of Saputura. It has developed into a planned hill resort with all the necessary amenities for tourists with parks, hotels, swimming pools, boat club, ropeways, and a museum.Saputara Weather
Saputara experiences a uniform weather all through the year. The temperature goes up to as high as 28 degree C during the summers thus making it the ideal place to spend the summers. Although one can visit Saputara all year the round, yet the best time to visit Saputara is from the middle of the march to the November.
Saputara Tourist attractions
The Saputara Lake : is the main attraction of the hill resort. There is a Boat Club here from where you can hire sailboats, paddleboats and rowing boats and enjoy boating in the lake. The Sun Rise and Sun Set Points provide panoramic and varied views of the sun. It also provides a perfect view of Saputara. You can reach Malegaon after a 1.5 km walk in the direction of Waghai. There are several gardens at Saputara like the Lake Garden, the Step Garden and the Rose Garden. These gardens are a perfect place to laze around while on a holiday. The Nageshwar Mahadev Temple : has the idol of the Lord Shiva. The temple is visited by a lot of people because of its religious sanctity. The museum of Saputara is well-kept museum, which provides the information about the tribes of Dangs. The tribal ornaments and musical instruments are exhibited in the museum. Gira Waterfalls is 52 km away. It is an ideal place for picnic.Purna Sanctuary : Purna Sanctuary is situated at Mahal, 60 km north of Dangs. In Western Ghats of Gujarat, this Sanctuary is the part of dense moist deciduous forest. The total area of Purna Sanctuary is approximately 160 square km and crossed by Purna and Gira rivers. For trekkers there are bamboos lined pathways are developed. To visit this Sanctuary a prior permission is required.
Vansda National park : It’s a private forest (originally) of maharaja of Vansada. The park spreads in a area of twenty four square km. Tiger, pangolin, leopard, python, rusty spotted cat, giant squirrel, four horned antelope etc animals are found in this park. From district forest officer of Ahwa or from chief wildlife warden of Gandhinagar a prior permission is required to visit this Vansda National Park.
Sunrise point : is one and half km far in the direction of Waghai, and provide the best view of Malegoan and Saputara. Malegoan is a village adjacent to Saputara. Tourist may confuse by the name of this place. As the name Sunrise point, commonly tourist think it’s the point to visit sun rise but its not true. Sunrise point is a place to catch panoramic view and may be visited at any time in day. Valley View Point is the suggested name by Tata Consultancy Services to rename this place to increase number of tourist.
Sunset point : is a place in Saputara from where you can view vast span of Dang Forest. You may also see distant villages of Adivasis from this point.
The Ropeway : It’s a ride across the valley to the sunset. The total duration of ropeway is 10 minutes and Hotel Vaity organizes this ropeway.
Saputara Museum : The museum provides information on the tribes of Dangs. Tourist may see trebles musical instrument and ornaments.
Getting Saputara
By Air: the nearest airport to Saputara is at Mumbai. There are a couple of flights from there for Saputara.
By Road: the nearest railway station at Waghai on the Billimora-Waghai narrow gauge section of the western Railways.
By Road: Saputara is well connected with other important destinations by state transport buses as well as private luxury coaches.

The accommodation is easily available at Saputara to suit all budget types. There are hotels, cottages and log houses to stay here. There are many restaurants and roadside stalls offering food. A well-equipped station is run by Gujarat Tourism Corporation.
