The ministry of health, ministry of science and technology and ministry of AYUSH along with the Indian Council of Medical Research has started the clinical trials of traditional ayurvedic medicines like Ashwagandha, Yashtimadhu and Guduchu Pippali on the health workers and frontiers working in the high-risk zones of COVID-19.
The clinical trials will also be done as an add on to standard care to COVID-19 patients with mild to moderate levels of infection.
Union health minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that the AYUSH ministry is trying to study the effect of AYUSH based prophylactic interventions in high-risk populations like the medical staff and those battling at the forefront in high-risk zones. The trial will also draw a comparison between the effect of Hydroxychloroquine and Ashwagandha for the prophylaxes against the current pandemic.
The trial will be carried out across 25 states in the country covering almost 5 lakhs population.
Additionally, an app named ‘Sanjivani’ has been launched recently to collect information from commoners about the usage of medicines recommended by AYUSH to boost immunity.
Meanwhile, there are 59,662 positive cases in the country with more than 17,847 being cured. Maharashtra (19,063) tops the list of Corona active cases in the country followed by Gujarat (7,402) and Delhi (6,318).
