There are many interesting places to see in Vijayawada and therefore, tourists visit this place round the year. It is the Granite Mountains here that offer the most interesting attraction in this place, and apart from that there are plenty of historical monuments that make the entire place quite lively. There are temples, mosques, and plenty of modern structures in this place, and this is the reason for which it is always thought that the city has a special charm of its own.

Some of the common Vijayawada tourist places include

Kanaka Durga Temple:

It is one of the most popular temples in the city, and therefore, it is also visited by large numbers of tourists from different places. This temple is located at the Indrakiladri Hill, and therefore, offers wonderful panoramic views of the entire city. The inscriptions within the temple are also worth visiting.

Bhavani Island:
This is the largest island in the Krishna River. It is located near the barrage, and is wonderfully groomed. Plenty of cottages have been built around this island, and a boat ride to this island can be wonderful.

Prakasam Barrage:

This is also a wonderful tourist spot with a barrage constructed across the River Krishna. This barrage also comprises of both roads and railway tracks. Along the barrage there are three canals, and also a huge lake that offers a Venetian look to the city.

The Gandhi Stupa:
This stupa is basically perched on the Gandhi Hill, and it was the first memorial that was built in the honour of Gandhi. The teachings of Gandhi are inscribed on stone here.

Gundala Church:
This church is also commonly referred to as St. Mary’s Church was previously an orphanage. It is basically found on the eastern sides of a hillock. An annual event is organized in this church and is attended by large numbers of people.

Hazrat Bal Mosque
A holy relic of the Prophet Mohammed is kept here and displayed for public viewing once a year. A large number of muslims and non-muslims join the celebration.

Kondapalli Fort

The fort, dating back to 7th century, was built by King Krishna Deva Raya. Kondapalli Fort is located 16 kms away from Vijayawada and a popular picnic spot among the locales.

Mogalrajapuram Cave
These caves are said to be excavated in the 5th century AD. The idols of Lord Nataraja, Vinayaka and Ardhanareeswaran exist here.

Undavalli Caves

This is 8kms from Vijayawada and is said to be carved in the 7th century A.D.This double storeyed caved structure was used as a rest house by Buddhist monks.
