Weekend Getaways near Mumbai

Mumbai is a city known for hustle and bustle. The din makes us unreceptive, unresponsive and sometimes we lose our indomitable spirit. Hence, if you are one among those and are awaiting for a day when you can enjoy heavenly bliss, then here’s a sneak peek on places. These places won’t only rejuvenate the lost spirit, but will make you feel lively and gregarious. Here are some visit destinations.

Lonavala and Khandala– Lonavala is an eminent destination that is located 96 kms away from Mumbai. This place is known for the chikki. Further, this place becomes all the more lively during monsoon season, as the countryside turns lush green. No one could afford to miss waterfalls and ponds located there. Lonavala and Khandala are the adjacent hill stations. Places that you can visit gere include Rajmachi Point, Valyan Dam, Lonavala Lake, Duke Nose, Karla Caves, Lohagad Fort and Bushy Dam.

Karshet– This place is located alongside the Alibaug beach. The crowd at this place is lesser and hence it makes it a perfect honeymoon destination for those who like to avoid crowd not only in Mumbai, but also at other tourist destinations. Don’t forget to try cuisine at the local places. Advice for health freaks- the food here comes with dollops of oil, but then it is vacation. Don’t forget to make most of it.

Alibaug– Even if you get off at Mandva Jetty, you may feel that you are in mad city crowds. This place is eminent for several beaches and forts like Kolaba Fort that is situated at the shore of Alibaug beach. A word for wise- high tides appear frequently, so be sure before you head out. Don’t forget to visit temples like Kanakeshwar Temple, Murud Janjira situated close to Alibaug.

Matheran– The best thing about this hill station is it is famous as the major trekking destination and it is labelled as pollution free. A big relief for Mumbaikars! Vehicles are not permitted within the set city limits and thereby keeping pollution levels within a check. Like other hill stations, this place offers stupendous view of natural beauty. Don’t miss a mini train ride to Matheran.

Nashik– This place is home to several vineyards. It is just four hour drive from Mumbai and it is also called as the wine capital of India. If you are planning to visit Nasik, don’t forget to enjoy the wine tasting session. Besides there are several other places to visit like Gangapur Dam and Pandava Caves. Here the Pandavas lived during exile.
