Yercaud Places to visit

Yercaud is situated at 4500ft above the sea level and it is one of the cheapest Hill Station of India. Hence it is known as Poor man’s Ooty. Yercaud is 202 km from Bangalore, Sheveroy hills, well known for diversity and a specific view of nature can be seen here. In sheveroy hills of north central Tamil Nadu. There is bliss of nature in climatic conditions, around all year temperatures remains moderate so, the reason being this cool pleasant climate.

It is famous for its panoramic scenic beauty, calmness in nature and for the charm of this neutrality. There are coffee planting and orange groves, you can see on the way. You can come here by Plane, train and car. Nearest airport for Yercaud is Kamalapuram and omalur. Salem junction is nearest to reach Yercaud by train. There are good connecting roads, so also can come by car.

To stay here, all kinds of facilities are available in hotel, motel. Well furnished resorts are also available and all facilities you can enjoy according to budget. You can buy natural oils, coffee powder, skin care products and perfumes from Yercaud in budgeting reasonable cost.

So… there are some specific places to visit must when you come:

Yercaud Lake

This lake is surrounded by garden and well wooded natural trees. During summer in the month of May summer festival is organized here. This Lake is also known as Emerald Lake. There is a floating mountain which constructed by MALCO, in the center of the Lake. There are some parks surrounded this Lake such as Anna park, Lake park, Gandhi park, children’s park. A bridge is present that connects an island with the mainland at the center.

Lady’s seat– This is a seat on the hill and from here one can see the great panoramic view of Salem district, hills and plain region of Yercaud.

Bear’s cave– It is situated on the way to several temples near Norton bungalow. Even this is a private property but the owner has the kindness to keep it open for tourists.

Pagoda point

This is a vantage point and there is also situated huge temple. If you come here in the early morning and evening time really you will get totally different some new views of Salem and of this nature.

Sheveroy temple– It is a highest range with a modern cave temple at the top, in this part. You can see this whole town from your own choice angle from here.

Killiyur waterfalls– The height of this fall is 90 feet and it mixes some holly charm in the panoramic view of Yercaud.

Akasagangai waterfalls– It is situated on kolli hills. This place is well known for various specific herbs and plants.

Botanical garden– It is 2km from Emerald Lake. This national Orchidarium has a wide variety of Orchids those are exclusively on reaching level found here. Besides its many endangered species of orchids are preserved here. The famous Kurunji flowers those blooms only once in twelve years also found here. This is the third largest among all the Orchidariums in India. Normally, the Botanical Garden is closed on Saturday, Sunday and on National holidays.

Horticulture farm– There are a rose garden and children seat is located here. There are various varieties of Roses such as normal rose, button rose, and large size rose in different colors such as green and other. Here is an entrance ticket of Rs. 2/- (for adult) you have to take and if you want to take picture buy your own camera so have to pay Rs. 10 in.

Yeracud experiences a moderate and healthy climate all through the year and Best season to visit Yercaud is from October to June.

How to Reach Yeracud

By Air:
The nearest airport to Yeracud is at Tiruchirapalli. The other airports are at Coimbatore and Bangalore.

By Rail:
The nearest railway station is at the Salem Junction and the Salem Town.

By Road:
Yeracud is well connected by road with the towns of Salem,Trichy, Madera, Bangalore and Coimbatore.
